The Olentangy Local School District is the 5th-largest school district in Ohio and the largest in Delaware County, currently serving approximately 24,000 students across 27 schools—17 elementary schools, six middle schools, and four high schools. For the 2024-25 school year, Olentangy earned a five-star overall rating on the Ohio School Report Card for the third consecutive year. It is the only district in Ohio with more than 10,000 students to achieve that distinction, and it has done so while growing by 400-500 students every year.
Delaware County has been named the Healthiest County in Ohio every year since 2015, and its housing market reflects that standing. The Lewis Center area median home sold price reached approximately $515,000 in late 2024, up more than 5% year-over-year, and the area's median household income exceeds $148,000—among the highest in Central Ohio.
Two parks define the outdoor experience here. Highbanks Metro Park in Lewis Center is the most-visited park in the Columbus Metro Parks system—1,200 acres of wooded trails, river overlooks, a nature center, and a sledding hill along the Olentangy State Scenic River. It's a fair question. Olentangy adds 400-500 students per year, and redistricting does happen. But the district has consistently managed that growth without sacrificing outcomes, earning a five-star Ohio Report Card three years running, even as it expanded. A no-new-millage bond passed in November 2025 will fund an 18th elementary school and a 5th high school, keeping pace with continued growth.
All four — Olentangy, Olentangy Liberty, Olentangy Orange, and Olentangy Berlin — offer strong AP programs, competitive athletics, and solid college placement. Liberty and Orange tend to draw the most attention in rankings, but all four consistently perform well above state averages. Which school your child attends depends on where in the district you live.
Both are consistently ranked among the best districts in Ohio. Dublin is slightly smaller and has historically scored marginally higher on some metrics, but Olentangy is the only district in Ohio with more than 10,000 students to hold a five-star rating, which is a meaningful distinction given the challenge of maintaining quality at scale.
