The city’s name, Pataskala, is of Native American origin, derived from the Delaware language. Originally known as Conine Town, it took on its current name in 1852, reflecting the influence of the nearby Delaware tribes.
Pataskala’s growth accelerated in 1996 when it merged with Lima Township, significantly expanding its population and geographic boundaries. This merger officially led to its incorporation as a city on August 6, 1996.
